The VISION concept exploration study all started when I was gifted a Google Mini smart speaker. Prior to owning one I had watched from afar other people using smart speakers in their own homes. I discussed with others about what they liked and didn’t like and couldn't wait to have the experience myself. What started out as personal journey of discovery turned into a personal project where I began to wonder how the product could be improved. I studied Google’s Home product portfolio and noticed opportunities for improvement in the form of a new addition called the Midi. I studied the smart speaker market and started to see the potential for a whole new segment of products near term and long term. The following work addresses the near-term need for a display based smart speaker. Following on from that will be an exploration into furniture based as well as wall mounted display speakers that integrate more fully into a home interior environment.
